CARDAMOM ESSENTIAL OIL

A.E. CARDAMOMO. Clarity, Joy, Courage
“Cardamom” is a term used to refer to the seeds of a group of aromatic species belonging to the genera Amomum, Aframomum and Elettaria. In cooking, we mainly use two species. Black cardamom (Amomum subulatum), also known as Nepalese cardamom, and green or true cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), from which essential oil is extracted.
It is one of the species that forms part of humanity’s ancient history. It is known that cardamom was already in use in ancient Sumer, that in ancient Egypt it was used in perfume, and that for centuries it has been used as an aphrodisiac alongside other ingredients. Lawless (1994) points out that an aphrodisiac formula known as “The Fire of Venus”, which contains cardamom, already appears in the Vedas. Its seeds are a popular ingredient in Asia, used to flavour dishes as well as in certain ceremonial incenses in India, such as the blend known as “Abir”.
In Ayurveda, they are said to have a Pungent and Sweet nature, making them suitable for Vata and Kapha.
