FLOWING WITH THE SEASONS AND CYCLICALITY
Life is all about change; nothing lasts forever. And the seasons are a perfect example of this.
We suggest 3 types of CLASSES, each lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes for each of the CHINESE STATIONS (15 in total).
Traditional Chinese Medicine provides a valuable framework for understanding and experiencing the annual cycle. According to this system, each season is characterised by the energy of an Element or Phase. This element influences the type of activity we need (spending more time sitting, walking, standing, etc.), affects certain organs in the body, and influences external factors that impact our health, and so on. When we incorporate this knowledge into sessions of SEASONAL YOGA We manage to practise in harmony with the season and help to maintain our mental and physical balance.
REQUIREMENTS AND MATERIALS
These sessions are suitable for everyone. When doing them at a later time, be very mindful of and respectful towards your own limits. It is advisable to have the necessary equipment to carry out these sessions, particularly two blankets, yoga blocks and a strap. For the AcuYoga + Mioball® sessions, you’ll need to have two myofascial release balls (or, failing that, tennis balls) to hand to carry out certain parts of the practice. If you’d like to get hold of our balls specifically designed for the Mioball® technique, please visit our ONLINE SHOP
TYPES OF CLASSES
YIN YOGA
These Yin Yoga sessions combine Taoist (Paullie Zink, TCMYoga®), functional (Paul Grilley) and mindfulness (Sarah Powers) approaches. During the session, the poses are held for between 2 and 5 mins, stretching is encouraged in specific areas that form part of the pathways of the main Chinese meridians, which are at their peak during the corresponding season, and mental tools are used to redirect attention through mindfulness practices (towards the body, the breath, emotions or the mind) or to attune oneself to virtues or mental archetypes (TCMYoga®).
YANG YOGA by TCMYoga®
The five Yang Yoga sessions provided for each season are based on the TCMYoga® methodology. This approach focuses on active, toning exercises along the main meridians to facilitate the flow of Qi (energy) and Xue (blood). Furthermore, the practice is tailored to each element. In other words, each season requires a specific type of active work (fluid movement, abdominal work, floor poses, etc.). At the start of the class, we warm up using one of the Yang Flow sequences recommended by TCMYoga®, thereby mobilising the body before moving on to more static and toning postures (Yang Core).
ACUYIN + MIOBALL®
These sessions are based on the practice of Yin Yoga, where poses are held for between 2 and 5 minutes. In addition to establishing Yin poses for the Main Meridians that guide the session, we will work on acupuncture points related to the Element we are focusing on and a physiological system affected by that element. We will work on these acupuncture points using acupressure + pressure applied whilst holding Yin Yoga poses + visualisation and mindful breathing + the Mioball® technique. The latter combines targeted pressure that promotes myofascial release with mindfulness. In this way, we achieve, on the one hand, the effect on the Qi (energy) exerted by the pressure of the ball, and on the other, we learn about ourselves through mindfulness. How do we react to stepping outside our comfort zone? How does the sensation change after 1 minute? What sort of thoughts come to mind when I remain still?
