NADIS, YOUR SUBTLE CHANNELS OF PERCEPTION
8 AyurYoga® sessions – Nadis for your energetic wellbeing
What are the Nadis?
Throughout the history of yoga, various classical texts refer to a series of subtle channels known as nadis which allow the prana is distributed throughout the body nourishing the 5 Vata sub-types (Vayus), Weaving Fabrics (Dhatus) and Physical Channels (Srotas).
The first reference to the nadis is described in the sacred Hindu scriptures, or Vedas. These texts state that within the human body there are 72000 nadis forming an extremely fine network of subtle channels, although in practical terms they are described and used 14 nadis the main ones and, more specifically, in the following three yoga practices: Ida, Pingala y Sushumna. Other traditions refer to energy pathways whose course and functions are similar to those of the nadis. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) describes a whole theory of meridians, in which the Major Meridians perform functions similar to those of the nadis. In the Thai tradition, we have the Sens. And from a Western perspective, we can find in the Myofascial Tracts, physical somatisation, the physical and emotional effects of which yield results similar to the classical descriptions of the nadis.
Any illness, condition or symptom stems from a blockage or deficiency of energy in one or more of the nadis. These Energy channels are connected to physical organs and the sense organs, so by regulating their energy flow we can have a significant impact on our health. This is what we will be doing in this series of classes: improving the flow in the nadis through their respective marmas, asanas, meditation, subtle techniques, breathing exercises, etc. Furthermore, in AyurYoga – Nadis, we interpret the nadis as channels of perception that help us manage energy from the inside out and vice versa. As we delve deeper into the descriptions of the nadis found in classical texts and by modern authors such as Hiroshi Motoyama and David Frawley, we begin to observe that each nadi – or every two nadis – influences the way we perceive the world, encompassing each of our channels of perception: exteroceptive, interoceptive, proprioceptive and extraordinary perception. Nadis and Doshas
Ayurveda views the material world as consisting of five elements, which in turn work in pairs to give rise to constitutions or biotypes known as Doshas. As yoga practitioners, we should practise yoga in accordance with our original biotype or the one that is currently out of balance. These sessions are TRIDOSHIC, which means they are structured into sections where the asanas and the way they are practised benefit each of the three Doshas.
