SHOELACE ARMS is the arm variation of “Gomukhasana” in Yin Yoga. For several months I had to do it using a belt, as you can see in the picture, because of a dislocated elbow that severely limited my mobility…
When we talk about meridians and energy in Yin Yoga, it may seem as though the practice is very “esoteric”, but in reality we are using our physical body and its tissues (particularly the fascia) to support its well-being by improving hydration and reducing adhesions and knots. By doing this, we support the body’s continuity and integrity and re-establish what the Chinese call the circulation of Qi in the Main Meridians (Jing Mai).
TCMYOGA® ANALYSIS for SHOELACE:
EXTERNAL ROTATIONS of the arms stretch the Yin Meridians of the Arms (Lung P, Heart C, Pericardium Pc), which correspond physically to the LASB and LAPB myofascial pathways
The INTERNAL ROTATIONS of the arms stretch the Yang Meridians of the Arms (Large Intestine LI, Small Intestine SI, San Jiao SJ), the physical representation of which is linked to the LPSB and LPPB myofascial pathways
Therefore, the Lazo Arms will be used for both METAL and FIRE elements. Can we tell them apart?
METAL is an element with a Yin tendency. It transmits a cold, sharp energy, and its primary emotion – Sadness – causes your energy to plummet towards the ground. Haven’t you felt it?
As the meridians run along the upper arm, to stretch them, they must be positioned at a medium height and moved downwards.
So, in Shoelace, the arm that is primarily active in the Metal element will be the lower arm stretching the Large Intestine (LI) meridian.
FIRE is the most Yang of all the elements. Its energy is expansive; it rises and projects towards the Heavens. Its primary emotion is excessive Joy or Euphoria, which causes heat to rise to the head and the heart.
As these meridians run through the middle and lower parts of the arm, to stretch them, the arms must be raised from a medium height upwards (raising the arms).
So, in Shoelace, the arm that primarily acts on Fire will be the upper arm, stretching the Heart (C) and Pericardium (Pc).
IN SUMMARY:
Shoelace UPPER ARM:
FIRE – Heart (C) and Pericardium (Pc)
Shoelace LOWER ARM:
METAL – Large Intestine (LI)
