POSTURAL ALIGNMENT: YES OR NO?

👉 👀 My answer is: it depends… it depends on what you consider alignment to be, and on who or which school you base your views on; it depends on your body; it depends on what you do with that knowledge of alignment…
🤓 Postural alignment in the asanas forms the basis of certain styles of Hatha Yoga, such as Iyengar and Anusara. And it really is essential for our bto ensure our biomechanics remain healthy and we do not injure our joints and tissues. In fact, for Vata types (an Ayurvedic term), it is essential to protect and look after our bodies by applying knowledge of postural alignment and avoiding anything “anti-organic”.
🤓 However, there are other styles that do not place as much emphasis on this. Rocket, Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga Vinyasa, to name but a few, do not base their practice on postural alignment but on Vinyasa (movement coordinated with the breath) and the Bandhas. And this is also very useful because we develop body awareness through movement and coordination.
🤔🤪SO?
🔹The vision of YOGA MIOFASCIAL® is:
BE AWARE of your body alignment, but DON’T GET OBSESSED
I have met some people who do not enjoy their asana practice because they are so focused on getting the posture “perfect” that they forget about “Sukham” (enjoyment, joy) and avoid constantly judging themselves. We believe it is essential to find a way to perform a posture safely, based on anatomical knowledge that respects the body’s biomechanics. Understanding the basics of postural alignment is essential not only for a yoga practitioner but also for a yoga or yoga therapy teacher who deals with people and their conditions on a daily basis.
💚 That said, it goes beyond theory. Find your own alignment through practice, which involves making SMALL ADJUSTMENTS and MICRO-CHANGES.
👉 This is one of the core principles and foundations of Myofascial Yoga®. It is based on anatomically healthy body alignment; once you have achieved this, you can sense your own alignment by making small micro-movements that develop proprioception, enabling you to actively listen to your body and allowing these small changes to prepare the fascia for a profound transformation. Over time, these micro-movements will help your body remember what “your true posture” and “your own alignment” are, within the limits you were dealing with at the start.
🙏 Over time, your own posture will have reshaped the entire fascial tissue, created new collagen fibres and become sufficiently hydrated, so that your posture as a whole will support itself and you will be able to maintain it without feeling tired or fatigued.
🙏 In time, you will have found “YOUR OWN ALIGNMENT”.
Thank you for reading this far 😁😚
