YOGA FOR THE EASTERLY WIND (VATA)

I’ve been spending a few days with my family in Tarifa, Cádiz, with a Levante wind 🌬
HAVE YOU EVER STOPPED TO THINK ABOUT HOW THE WIND AFFECTS YOU?

🤓 Ayurveda classifies nature into three main biotypes, each consisting of two elements.
💨 VATA is the “Dosha” (body type) consisting of AIR + ETHER. In places such as Tarifa, VATA levels are high, and people with this constitution (Prakrutti) or an imbalance of this Dosha (Vikrutti) tend to become unbalanced more easily, experiencing symptoms such as nervousness, instability, headaches, lack of concentration, poor balance, etc.

🙋‍♀️ CHECK OUT SOME TIPS that we at AyurYoga® suggest for your personal practice when the “external wind” is strong 🙂
▪️ If you’re going to include Sun Salutation in your sequence, do so very mindfully, slowly and calmly.
▪️ Create a sequence that allows you to hold each pose for more than seven breaths. If there’s too much movement on the outside, we don’t want any more movement on the inside 😉
▪️ Practise asanas that promote grounding and stability, such as standing balance poses.
▪️ Do asanas that tone your muscles, particularly those in your lower legs.
▪️ As you practise, aim to lower your centre of gravity by making extensive use of seated and lying-down poses that help to relax the nervous system.
▪️ Incorporate Nadi Sodhana to balance your nervous system, or Chandra Bhedana if you feel you are prone to stress and restlessness.
▪️ Try Tratakam if you find it difficult to stay focused and relaxed.
▪️ Cleanse the colon – where Vata accumulates – using Jala Basti (salt water) or a chamomile or coffee enema.
▪️ Chant mantras that help to reduce Vata, such as the seed mantras HRIM, KLIM or LAM, or mantras to deities such as Ganesha (Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha), which help to foster inner strength and inner security.
▪️ Meditate on deities that bestow qualities beneficial to Vata, such as RAMA (who bestows steadfastness, stability and security), KRISHNA (who bestows fluidity and joy) or LAKSHMI (who bestows abundance).
▪️ It includes relaxation exercises and guided meditations that focus on connecting with and becoming aware of the physical body.
▪️ Do a long Savasana … enjoy the stillness…
